Is it possible to get an alarm for Fairmont EL that will not require me to carry two remote controls? ie. able to be connected to SmartLock without major fuss.

There are plenty of alarms on the market that will work off the smartlock system.

What you are after is refered to a upgrade.

Just walk into almosy any car-audio store and explain to them what you are after.

Although it will prob be cheaper to get a normal alarm and simply take the smartlock keypad off your keyring as it does nothing to the smart lock system it only opens the doors and boot.

I had the upgrade on my XH and will one of these days fit it to my EL. The brand I had was Vision, who I was led to believe also manufacture the smartlock. Please correct me if I'm wrong!
Vision is available from Tonkins in S.A. Don't know about interstate.

Will the alarm remote open the doors/boot? Thats the only reason I would like an alarm that is compatible - so that the one remote can do it all. Don't care if it is the original smart lock remote or the alarms remote.

Yep, Vision Group are the manufacturers of Vision Alarms, the units fitted to Falcons (and probably other makes and models) as factory fit, dealer fit and over-the-counter accessory kit. The kit for an EL may be still available from Ford Parts, but generally Ford tend to only keep kits for the current models, but it's still worth a try.

I've been to 3 different places now, and they have all said they need to disable smartlock to get the alarm to work, and the 'upgrade' alarms don't work on smartlock-equipped cars. The only reason I could get from them though, is that the BCM doesn't put out a consistant enough voltage to keep the alarm happy. I personally don't like ths idea, you lose the standard remotes, and I don't know what the consequences are of disabling smartlock....

Best thing might be to call up Ford and see what brand of Alarm they recommend for use with Smart Lock (if it is possible). If you get any details, post them here
