I have a while before I will be purchasing splits, so I thought I might get some thorough research done beforehand. I need some educated and/or professional recommendations regarding the speakers I have in mind. I've narrowed it down, so please don't add any other suggestions to make it more difficult
Here is my list of options (note, all 6/6.5"):
Alpine Type-R
DIAMOND AUDIO S600a <- Pretty rare but awesome reviews...
MB Quart PCE-216
Rockford Fosgate FNQ3614
BOSTON ACOUSTICS ProSeries 6.5
INFINITY KAPPA 60.5CS (these being the cheapest out of the list)
I'd say I'm leaning towards one, but I'd be happy to take any. I'm after sound quality and reliability at this stage.

I'd either go boston's or kappa's, but more inclined to go bostons. Can I ask the reason's for narrowing down to these speakers. (I will restrain myself in suggesting other options ) I haven't heard the 2 way RF fanatics but i've heard the three ways. While they still sounded decent, they certainly didn't justify the price tag, and I found other considerably lower priced speakers sounded better... These are just my opinions btw
Steve, I knew you would be the first to reply to this thread LOL!
Why have I narrowed it down to these? Well, simply because I can get these at a decent price. They're all roughly around the same, whilst the Infinitys are substantially cheaper.
I am sure your other suggestions would include Focal and Hertz, right?! Well I can't seem to find Focals in that price range and the Hertz I have no idea about. I'm actually leaning towards the Diamond Audio, Boston or RF. I don't know if I can justify the extra for three way RFs, but they sure as hell look bloody nice.
You know what? Let me hear your other suggestions anyway! Thanks.

I have Boston's Rally's in my car and couldn't be happier with them. I would have bought the Pro's but just couldn't afford them, they are an awesome sounding speaker. Therefore Boston gets my vote.

I think you need to put together a collection of the different types of music you listen to and go and test these splits out. Its all good that people can tell you what speakers they like, but its got to be up to you.
Speakers that Steven like and whilst they are good speakers, may not be to your liking. You also need to bear inmind the enviromnet to which you are placing the speaker. Different speakers sound different in different car aswell as from different positions.
Anyways my 2cents.

Is there a site which does a review of the latest speakers on the market? That way people can read the review and make up their own mind on what they like the look of in relation to an 'expert' opinion. A bit lit when 'motor' or 'wheels' do a new car review.
I'm another one with Bostons and love em to death. I've been hammering my rally's for 3 years and they havn't missed a beat. Just be aware that going 6 inch in the front means cutting the door, which for me was a BIG no-no. 6.5's slot into the rear without the need to cut or modify. Dont be too concerned with what the speaker looks like.. at the end of the day its going behind a grille. I've heard the alpines and they're nothing special. As for the others, i've heard from people that they're good. Only way to tell is to listen to them!!
