Need Help - Installing a CD \ MP3 Deck in an EF Falcon

Hey all,

Im trying to install a deck in an EF GLi Falcon... I have previousely installed 3 sound systems in >OLDER< cars (but they were all shitboxes... and not worth much - friends 80's cars)... however, I am havin probs with an install in a newer car...

Basically... my friend and I were trying to install, a wire touched metal, shorted out and blew car fuse (um... DONT DO THIS... kills remote \ manual central locking, windows, starter motor... ie: ur locked in your own car)...

Anyways... does ANYONE know of where to find a colour coded chart for the audio deck wires... as to know how to wire up to a sony cd \ mp3 deck.

Not going to try again (and prolly blow a fuse) without knowing which wire is which.

ANY help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Just get an adapter harness so you won't even need to cut wires.

Re: Need Help - Installing a CD \ MP3 Deck in an EF Falcon

thanx... but i have alreayd used this guide.

My falcon different in the fact that it had two orange speaker cables (one orange, one orange\black stripe - not listed on faq)... it also had a single light green cable, and black cable (not listed on faq)... and is missing one speaker cable for one the front speakers.

Also.... to be noted. If you read up on the pinout wiring colours on the guide, some of the colour combos are doubled up on (one each in each adapter) - so... the fact that i cut off the adapters (before realising about adapter harnesses...) means that i have a bit of a problem.

Is it worth just gettin it installed professionaly? Strathfield wants $90! just to install my deck. Are there any better places \ prices???

Any more help would be much appreciated.

Have you got a circuit tester ?

It's easy enough to make one with a length of wire and a 12volt bulb...that's all I have ever used.

From memory, the green wire is for the light (when you turn your car lights on, the lights in the head unit come on). I think that all Sony's have the lights on all the time anyway.

Black cable is typically earth.

After reading that I had flashbacks of the pain I went through with my EF. Do me a favour and tell me if it has OPT20 stamped on the VIN plate under the bonnet. If it does I know the wiring from doing my one.

EDIT: Also, where you located, if you are in Sydney I might just be able to help you out.

Re: Need Help - Installing a CD \ MP3 Deck in an EF Falcon

So far, from two wiring guides... ive put together the following, in regards to wiring up an EF Falcon. (Using a EF and XH wiring guide)

This should be correct, however, I tried it and it seems my deck still wont recieve any power. I checked the (radio + cigarette lighter) fuse and it is fine. I really dont want to have to resort to running the (constant battery voltage) wire straight from the BATTERY.

Damn... didnt know installing a deck in a NEWER car would be this painful.
