I just hooked up 2 speakers to a jvc ks-r150. I used the right front and rear speaker outputs because the the left outputs produced very little sound. I wired them straight through with the wires on the back of the radio. They work and sound great when the car is not running but as soon as you start the car there is a fast pop pop pop pop static in both speakers. Does anybody know what is going on?

I found that the loud and soft issues were just the balance options on the radio but i found that the pop pop pop coming out of the speakers sound as if there in tune with the engine such as when i rev the engine the pop pop pop will get faster. Is this something in the distributor maybe the points or even the plug wires it is a older vehicle a 59 Ford and like i said they work completely fine when the car is not running.

It's probably a bad spark plug wire or coil wire.

Did you use the factory wiring from the speaker to the radio?

I think i checked the wires. What i did was i would run the engine and got some rubber covered pliers and would pull 2 wires free from the top of the distributor and listen to the speakers. I did this all around the distributor and every time there was still a pop pop pop. Was this a accurate way to check the wires? As far as wiring there was about 10inches of wire for speaker outputs in the back of radio. I spliced it there with about 10ft of speaker cord to the speakers.The radio, speakers, and wiring is all approx. 15years old. Im thinking it must be something mechanical with wires or distrubtor since it only does it with the engine running and is in tune with it. What are your ideas?

hmmmm, it could also be the alternator. The easiest way to eliminate it as the culprit is to remove the belt, start the engine and see if the popping goes away.

Also, try starting the engine at night and look under the hood and see if you can see arching anywhere in the ignition system.

I've read applying dielectric grease where the rotor contacts the coil contact on the cap might help eliminate it.

Check distributor cap for cracks.

Check ground from engine to frame.

A power line noise suppressor should work as long as the interference is not coming through the antenna. Radio Filters
