What does the voltage drop down to? Mine used to go from 14.5v down to around 12v. I got a drycell battery and that helps heaps, the voltage still drops slightly but no where near as bad. From memory drops below about 11.5v can be bad for the EEC.
Caps DO make a difference, my system used to drop to bout 11.8v without a cap installed, that's with a Yellow top optima dry cell battery and 0 gauge power cables. Installing a 1.5 farad cap raised the volts to around the 12.5v mark when cranking hard, and it did make quite a noticable difference in terms of SPL.
That said, although they do make a difference, the Money you pay for a cap can be much better spent on upgrading your alternator or a dual battery system, which would yeald much better results.
Mine cost about $400 and they replace your old battery. Dry cells are generally a lot more powerful (mines around 650cca, the goodz one is abour 700, compared to a normal one which is about 300), they have a much longer life and they have no liquids inside them (so they can be mounted upside down if you want).
