New Fairmont Ghia Security

I have just taken delivery of my new car after having had a 1990 Calais since new. I baught a Ford over a Holden because it seemed to me to be a much more up to date car as regards motor and drivetrain. However it comes as a bit of a shock to find that as this car has no dead locks fitted and the back seats fold down it is not possible to leave anything in the car that cannot be stolen! Also can anyone tell me what the advantage of traction control is over the good old "slippery diff"? Also are the keys(not the keyad) waterproof?
