Hi All,

I have a 12" pioneer sub of around 4 years old (checker plate cone style) and since i have had the sub (3 years) I have had it in a sealed enclosure as the person I bought it off told me that is how he had it installed.

Now while the bass has always been good, I was wondering if porting the box would increase SPL. It's currently in a fully sealed 27L box, but im wondering if this sub was designed to run in a ported box or not. If its not, would placing it in a ported enclosure damage the sub?

Can anyone help me?

It's not a good idea unless you know the parameters of the driver.

Porting should not harm the sub but it is a good idea to find the right volume of the box, and of the port(s) for your sub or a similar sub.
It could sound bad if you ported it wrong but you could get it right and gain a few db's
