Hey everyone

i just installed my shift kit today which involves disconnecting the battery to wire it up to the ecu then when i reconnected the power and started it

now i need a code for the radio?

i read the manual and it says there should be a card in the glovebox with the code on it (or wherever i keep it in a safe place)

alas there is no card

i think the code is generated based on your vin?

can anyone help or do i have to go to a dealership and pay money for it

You'll need to go to a dealers and provide ownership details of the car (i.e. prove you own it). It's supposed to cost something like $8, but most dealers dont really bother with it as it takes all of 3 seconds to retrieve.

DON'T try and guess it because if you bugger it up 3 times you will 'lock' the unit and it'll be very difficult to get anything out of it.

no numbers on my '95 XG ute match the radio code i have. i went to ford in Geelong with proof of purchase and they did not charge me for it, and why should they it took less than 2 minutes to get it for me.

went alright, does what it says it does.

shifts are faster, good if you've got it floored..

i got the two stage kit from shiftkits.com.au, install is easy i guess.. buy a soldering iron $8, stanley knife $1, solder $1, get to the ecu, cut some wires, solder them, tape it up pack it away.

dealership didn't end up charging me any money, just logged onto the ford mainframe *g* and typed in the vin to get the radio code.

factory headunit is on the shelf now

installed a clarion headunit.. though i havn't found the battery power yet.. i did a search on the forums for wiring on ef/el and checked out fordmods.com but everyones advice has been different

i sorted out accessory power, front speakers, rear speakers, earth.. then i'm left with black with pink stripe, lime green, brown and blue with red stripe.. the gauge of these wires is smaller than accessory power was, so wtf?

i tried black with pink stripe but that didn't seem to be it, i hear brown is for dimming the display, lime green for telephone mute (whatever that is, something to do with muting the speakers when you have a call?) and someone i think said that the blue with red stripe was for controlling the aerial


i mean, im sure ill try them out

stock speakers seem to be alright, anyone know what wattage the el speakers are good for? fronts and the alpines on the parcel shelf?
