Splits for EL XR6?????

G'day,

I have a EL XR6 and am thinking of replacing the factory splits. Can anybody tell me what size the factory speakers are? And what do I have to do to get to the tweeters in the dash?

Also what splits have people put in their EL?

Thanks heaps.

Re: Splits for EL XR6?????

One of my mates has Pioneer Bullet splits in his EF XR6, for around $300 they are a very nice sounding speaker, especially if you are running them with an amp.

Re: Splits for EL XR6?????

I have an EFXR6, and i just bought some 6.5" focals.. they will fit, it will just require some 'installation' work

You know in your EL XR6, where the side mirror adjuster is on the drivers door? Above that there is a grey plastic panel that looks like a sail. I mounted my JVC tweaters to that and ran a wire down the inside of the door to the crossover.. It's worked well so far, and they recommend you have the tweaters 30cm's away from the woofers, and it's roughly right..

About what splits to get, we need to know your price range and intention. Do you want alot of bass and loudness? Or good quality sound.. Do you wanna be able to build on your system? Or do you want to get the best now and save time.. ?

Cheers,
Yagz

Re: Splits for EL XR6?????

Heya Dan,

I got the Ployglass 165v2 focals (2-ways), from a guy on caraudioaustralia.com. He bought a set of 3 ways and a the 2 ways, then started a new job, and didn't have time to install them with the effort they deserve, so he decided to sell them. Brand new, never had wires close to them! I was pretty happy with the find..

I see you've got a set of utopia's.. How do they sound? I've never had or heard focals before, so i'm interested on what other people have to say about them...

Cheers,
Yagz

Re: Splits for EL XR6?????

I've said it before and I'll say it again, my vote is for Boston Acoustic FS60's The Hertz range are quite good too but I've only heard them whilst sticking my head in the door of an Excel so my exposure to them is far from comprehensive. You'll need a bit of metal work or spacing to get them in however.

Easy to install 6" splits in EL front doors?

Re: Splits for EL XR6?????

I'm sure i read somewhere that it's best for the woofer and tweater to be within 30cm's of eachother.. is that wrong?
