Subs and Amps - i have NFI!

As the title suggests, I have absolutely no idea when it comes to car audio. However, I think the time has come to get some more responsive bass in the car - not for 'doof doof', but just to really enhance the quality of the sound (i.e no annoying popping).

So, I'm wondering the best way to go about this. Im happy with my current speakers (stock Pioneer ones), however is it possible to just run a Sub off my existing headunit, or do i need an amp to run it? I know its probably better to run an amp as well, and eventually i would look at getting one, but for now, can I just wire it in?

Re: Subs and Amps - i have NFI!

it would be a waste running a sub from the head unit nowhere enough power to run a sub. You wouldn't be able to hear it. The cheapest solution, get a "cheapish" 150w x 2 amp (bridgeable i.e you can connect one speaker to run off both outputs) with high inputs. That way you can keep your stock headunit and run a 8-10" sub.
