hey dudes, ive got a problem with a stereo ive just installed, its a pioneer mp3 deck. im fairly sure ive got everything wired up properly except for two things, 1) there is a light wire that has no where to go and 2) the tuner will only work for a minute at a time. the cd works fine and all the speakers work. i have to either turn the deck off for a bit or listen to a cd for a while before the tuner will work again. is this a problem with the deck or a wiring issue? any help would be great.

Whats the model number, and whats the wiring diagram say the spare wires are for.

Have you earthed it properly, and connected one wire to a constant positive as well, and the other to ACC.

The light one is for when you turn your headlights on, the deck dims.

With the tuner, are you sure you don't have the deck in 'demo' mode.

the deck is a pioneer deh-p5550mp

all the wires are the same as the previous deck (a sony) except the light wire, the sony did not have one. where do i connect it up to?

Ive never herd of problems like this with a cd tuner. I have installed pioneer, jvc, clarion and sony decks in my mates XF's, VL's, TX5's ive done around 50 cars and never have herd of this problem. Mabe try going over the wire connections again, check ground, get voltmeter and check your accseory and direct battery link etc. With the light dimmier, im pretty shure you can bridge it of something in the dash that lights up when you put your beams on. Just get a wiring diagram and just follow up a wire they gets a voltage when the beams are turnd on.
