What is wrong with my amp? HELP!!! - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

On monday my amp just stopped working. No funny noises or smells, it was fine one second then all of a sudden I only had 2 little 4 inchers running of my deck. The amp was running my splits and rear speakers.
I have checked all the power lines and they are fine. The power light on the amp doesnt come on. I have checked the remote lead and it is still connected fine. I opened her amp and everything looked normal as far as I could tell.

Its a Jaycar 4 by 100 and I think its out of warranty.

Is there anyone who fixes these? Where would i go to get it looked at?

Hiya Dan,

First off, don't take these suggestions as an insult to your intelligence, I took note you checked some of these already, but they're some fairly simple tests I would do before sending the amp off to be looked at.

Tripple check the earth, making sure it's got a good bare metal contact area.

Grab a test light/Multimeter and make sure there is a sufficient power supply to the amp.

Make sure the remote is sending it's signal.

Disconnect the front/rear channels to rule out a short in a speaker/wiring.

Failing all that, i'd say it needs a professionals touch. Hope I was of some help.

I tried disconnecting the speakers and RCA and still no power. The amp has been in the car for about 5 months and hasnt moved so I imagine the earth is fine. I will buy a voltmeter today and see what I can come up with. It might be a good time to upgrade to that audison I want.

Use a light bulb across the contacts does it light up, quick and easy :0)

That is clever,
I have an old neon sitting in my room. If it lights up and no power on the amp then the amp is screwed If it doesnt light up then connection problem.
Can I do this for the remote lead too?

YES, the remote wire is a 12volt trigger wire, so no problemo, you can aslo jump the positive to the remote wire to test if thats the problem :0)

Thanks a lot dellboy999, I know what the problem is now

I used your light bulb trick. My main fuse on the power wire was not letting power through. It looked fine but was broken.

I tried another fuse which had a broken case from being left in my glovebox and it worked, I need to get another fuse and it will be sweet again.
