Yay new stereo!

Hey all got me a new stereo to replace my sexy ford tape deck and mega power 16 watt door speaker.

Now I've got
2x 2way Sony Explod 4.5" 140w for the front
2x 3way Kenwood 150w 6" for the back.
1x JVC S785 MP3 cd player!
the speakers are all in and the deck goes in as soon as I get my new alarm installed on monday.
I'm doing the deck my self so I've have a tutorial for ya'll on how to do it.
Over the comming months I'll be expanding the stereo to include 4 tweeters (2 front, 2 for the rear doors) and a sub and amp for the boot.
These will come a close second to further engine mods however.

Sounds like your on track for a very decent stereo.

I just put in a kenwood mp3 player and jbl gth603(!) 6.5" in the front.

No amp installed yet, but it sounds very very impressive. I have a sub and amp to put in, but just want to get a box built first. Should be sounding awesome then....

Yay! It's great to see some other people getting MP3 headunits in their cars.

Two years ago I got the Kenwood eXcelon z919 (just when it came out) and have never looked back. I also got 2 x Blaupunkt 5.25" 2-way front speakers and 2 x 6" Kenwood 3-way speakers for the rear. No amp - just powered by the head unit. Sounds OK by my standards but I'm thinking of getting a sub and an amp. One day...

Anyway, enjoy the MP3s guys. There's nothing like being able to do a Sydney<->Melbourne trip on only one CD! :s3

You got the exact same deck as me 3Toed. I like this deck alot.

Unfortunately, the only missing usefull features are removable face and id3 tags.

Mind me asking how much yours was??

cheers

I went to tonkins and they had it for 399. I drilled them as I was paying 399 for the alarm as well and got the lot for $700.
the JVC deck is 45w per channel it has 2 preouts removable face and support for id3 tags. it's wicked man and the quality it tops (from what I've heard) finished off with a wild (if not a bit wanky) remote as well.

Futura97, yeah the 2 issues you mentioned are rather annoying, especially the former, but I made up a black cover that fits over the headunit to hide it when the car is parked. Since you also have an EL you'll know there's a major gap between the face of the headunit and the centre console. The cover I made fits nicely into that gap.

Like I said, I got mine as soon as it was available here. The RRP at the time was $1,300 but I got it for $1,250 and $200 for the 4 speakers. It's a fair whack but it's a toy I just had to have!

I actually got mine fitting rather nice. I had to drill some holes in the original brackets(which was not fun, must be drill proof or something...) and it is sitting real nice. The only annoying thing is that the fascia(rectangle silver thing that sits around the deck) doesn't clip on properly. I think i was given a dud....

but nevertheless its a beaut deck.

heres a pic of it...
