200 straight 6 cyl -- help with rocker assembly?
Hi all, I am a newbie, and maybe you can help point me in the right direction.
I've got an engine from a 1965 Mustang. It is the 200 cid (3.3 litre) straight six. It is one of the old ones with the intake manifold cast into the head.
Anyway, I am restoring it as a learning project with my son. (Everyone should know how to tear down and rebuild a simple engine, right?) We are not doing any performance upgrades, just trying to get it back to the "factory state" for a daily driver.
I've gotten some machine work done on the head, but as I was cleaning up the rocker arm for reassembly, I notice that the rocker shaft was very worn. A quick check on the parts availability showed that a new shaft was $25, so I now have one sitting in front of me.
The question is: how on earth do I get the rocker pedastals off the shaft and then get them on the new one? The pedastals seem to be a very, very tight fit, with no fasteners other than the friction fit. They are made of cast aluminum, so I know I need to be careful with them. Any tips for getting this disassembled and then reassembled with the new shaft?
FWIW, I can't find instructions in any of the books I have, and a search on the web and forums didn't yield much.
Thanks!
