200 xflow rods ID - Ford Forums

Got an old XF off a guy the other day, was supposed to be a 250ci, turned out to be a 200ci - I think going by the big 200 letters on the crank. I wanted the motor as a donor for my race car and needed a 250ci. So I bought an XE 250 series 2 with a 250 in, but when I pulled the head off it has flat tops in it with large (about 10mm in size) numbers "4" and "5" stamped into the tops of each one. I don't think they are piston ordering numbers because the same numbers are on the tops of each one and there are no oversize (eg .030") numbers anywhere. The motor's not out yet, so I haven't looked inside.
Firstly, how do I ID 200ci rods by looking at them without a vernier, is there a physical noticable difference?
Secondly, I'm told that xflows never had flat tops, what should I be looking for, have I got lucky with some high comp pistons?
Got lots of free XE wagon parts if you live in Perth by the way, looking for a good redline or similar manifold to take a holley.

There is always crossflow manifolds on EBAY.Expect to pay around $80-$100 for one.Or brand new around $230-$260,for a 2 barrel and $360-$420 for a 4 barrel.

Flat tops???............. do they have a slight dish??... sounds like another 200 ci these had flat tops with a very slight relif.... With no over sizing or letting std id say therestock factory pistions which would make it a 200... Keep the rods

Jeez, you wouldn't read about it! Mate's got the chain block, so I won't know for a few days, but I bet I've got a new hobby collecting 200 crossflow rods! Hey Injected 250, you contribute a lot to this site, thanks for sharing it around a bit. Cheers, watch this space!

indeed watching........... THe rods from these engines are worth more than the engines them selfs... long rod 250s :> the only thing 200's are good for :>

As I thought, the motor is a 200. That's two for two, not bad for a motor that's supposed to be a bit harder to find!! Posted a shot of my ute a bit airbourne running the clevo, notice how it's nose diving.
