Does anybody know how much of a difference it would make if I swapped the engine in my XF from a standard 4.1l carby to a 4.1l carby 250 crossflow?

The 250 X-flow has only done 70,000kms and has apparently been blueprinted. It has also been sitting for 6 months, is this a major problem?

My XF's current engine has done 255,000kms and hasn't had much work done to it apart from frequent servicing.

Is there an easy way to tell if an engine has been blueprinted? As I would like to make sure before purchasing.

Any info would be handy.

Yours is already a 250 crossflow. I don't know whether or not the engine having sat for a while would be a problem. The carby is the only thing I can see playing up. As for whether or not it's been blueprinted...

His engine should be waaaaaay fresher than yours.

If you can't see it running it's pretty hard to tell how healthy an engine is. Do you trust the bloke? Does he have receipts?

Aside from blueprinting it has he put aftermarket parts in?

If the engine's already out of the car you can pull the cam out and see what it is. Check if the manifold & carby and see what make they are. Aside from that I reckon it'd be pretty hard & time consuming to find out.

I work with the bloke, so I do trust him. Pity he's not gonna sell me Mustang though.

I don't think that there's any more aftermarket parts on it. But I can take the carby off of my old engine and chuck that on there.

is the crossflow the efi cause if it is the efi will give you about an extra 10 to 20 kw

It's not EFi sadly.

Ive decided against it, but purely cause there is really nothing wrong with the one I got.

The XF that it is sitting in had an accident and has got a little bit of front end damage, but he wants $500 for the whole car including the engine.

It also has mags and been lowered. So I'm still thinking about buying the lot and then selling the engine off again.

At that price take it and tune the tits off it & plonk it in yours.
