Hey PPL

I need Help. I plan on leaving my ea as standard. Its a 3.9 CFI. I dont want to do the MPI conversion. What mods can i do that are not to expensive that will give good results. I have a 2.5" exhaust, i plan on putting extractors on it and a mid racing cam. What else can i do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would un-plan on doing the cam.. I've been told they don't really work on CFI (bad idle)

Really there isn't a great deal you can do to a CFI - I mean even if you spent $1000 and got a mechanic to do the MPFI conversion with good parts there isn't really much you can do that will give you the same cost/benefit

$1000 = 19kW (more commonly around $500 totalled)
You can spend $1000 on a full exhaust system or chip and not get that..

For around 200 u could get MPFI parts and get around 15kws power extra. use the CFI manifold as a door stop hehe

Yeah as Gli 90 said - manual conversion if its auto.. Change diff ratio.. Stuff around with the air intake.. Full exhaust system..

And you'll have a car as fast as a stock manual mpi depending on the diff ratio... seriously..

But then, having done all this, put the MPFI on it, and then you will have a car as fast as a MODIFIED mutipoint setup!
Getting serious for a second, why don't you want to put MPFI on the car???
It will give you more power than the exhaust, as Axeman has already said.

i would, but i am not to sure if the parts i get are any good and i am not to sure how much work is involved etc. IT IS A MANUAL. with a 2.5" exhuast system on it.

Doing the MPFI conversion is pretty well documented these days..

And for the cost that you would spend on extractors and cam (around $700 for parts + labour = ~$1000) you could get the conversion done for you with the doubtful parts being bought new... But if cost is the major concern (like me!!) then you don't have any real good options..

I had the same hesitations about converting to MPFI as u do. However when i FINALLY found a cam available for the CFI I was quickly put off by the fact that even after purchasing it for $350+ I would still have LESS power than a completely standard MPFI'd 3.9
roughly $200 later and I now have an extra 19kw's and 27NM of torque to play with

we REALLY need to put together a guide on CFI->MPFI. we have lots of info, but its in so many places and so hard to find...

It's my fault that we don't have a comprehensive CFI->MPI tutorial yet, because Karl and Scott Hart are going to convert mine when I finally get the rest of the parts I need. I've been really busy lately and haven't had much of a chance to check the wreckers. The tutorial will cover everything, and both Karl and I have digital cameras so nothing will be missed Stay tuned...
