3.9 head
Just out of interest, Ive got my new head on. About 5 km after I collected the car I gave it a squirt down the freeway, then the noise started. The next day revealed a lifter had collapsed and jammed shut. Anyway the car goes allright now, its much quicker through the gears. The power fairly kicks in at about 3800 and stays until 5000+. I think the lifter shat itself at about 5400.
The note is more aggressive and burbles more when backing off. I feel I have to ride the clutch more on take off as the motor feels lumpy way down low. Im hoping this will decrease as the computer adjusts. [ how long should this take?] I think a lower ratio diff is definately on the cards now.
There is a lot of valve train noise and all concerned are hoping this will diminish with 'wearing in'. The lash caps are 90 thou but this may change along with a 20 thou bigger lifters if the valve train noise hangs around or more lifters collapse. The inlet valve is a machined down cleveland unit and exhaust is an after market larger unit.
Anyway a dyno reading next week will reveal all. But Im not finnished yet..........
