Okay guys, i recently posted the question about how much trouble it would be to put a el6 in my xe. Everyone said expensive if you cant do it at hom so ive barred that idea!!
So I have two other options which i would like all your opinions on:
Get my 250 rebuilt
Get a 351
I want which ever i chose to have 300hp. Which do you think would be my best option for a true daily driver?. I want the motor to give maximum acceleration and reasonably economical highway driving also.
What is a seasonable price for a rebuild of each of these with 300hp? Ive seen different places advertise a 351c with 300hp for prices varying by 1000.
What are the best engine building places in melbourne you all reckon i should check out?
As far as the 250 goes, what is a good combo of bits and pieces to squeeze 300hp out of it if its possible? I'd like to hear about any experiences anyones had or motors they have seen. (has to be naturally aspirated)
any information at all would be helpfull guys, or a point in the direction of a good book or website.
For 300hp you will need to go the 351 option. The 250 would only be good for around 200hp while remaining drivable (unless you go turbo). A mild 351 buildup would produce 300hp while remaining drivable. Also, you generally get what you pay for when building an engine. COME racing do 300hp packages for around $3500.
mate getting 300bhp out of a 351 is simple especialy if you can get your self a pre polution 351. They came out with 250bhp standard. All you need is a standard rebuild if the engine is stuffed using mostly stock parts or if you can find a good 351 with good bottom end & thats all you need as a starting point.
Get extractors and better exhaust and you are allready on 290bhp. Get a mild cam & better intake/carby and you are allready on 340bhp+ @ 5000-5500rpm. 351 clevo heads dont need porting because they will flow 380bhp beffore you need to port them due to the large valves & big ports.
A mate has a simple combo on his 351 clevo. It has dual exhaust + tuned length extractors. 224/234 duration cam but he is using gas research on factory manifold. Bottom end is stock with 9.5:1 compresion. The combo is in the XB Coupe behind a 4 speed top loader & 3.55 9" diff. The car goes like it's on steroids. It dosent just chirp into 2nd gear it spins into second throwing the whole car sideways..... Thats' with 255 rears & lsd!!!!
If you want to retain drivability go for a 351 you will never be disapointed and the feeling of the actual power will offset the cost of petrol believe me. The only problem that you will have is trying not to get over 300bhp, that is if 300bhp is all you want.
Nah 300 is not the limit its more the minimum i wanted to end up with so what youve said sounds pretty good!
If i was to go to somwhere like COME and buy a rebuilt 351 with mild cam get good exhaust intake and carb what sort of mileage do you think i will be getting in everyday suburban driving if i drive it sensibly??
thnaks guys
ps can ya answer in litres kms, i dont understand liles per galon
300 HP from xflo a bit hard with economy....but a good 260hp motor is strong and fuel efficient......
even a 302 clovo is easy to go to 300 horsies......and cheaper to source....
IS your xflo EFI or CARB...?
other thing is the expense of converting.....radiator.....belts.....mounts.....wiring.....tacho in dash....suspension.....blablabla....box and housing......throttle cables......
