Well as most of you know my poor old 3.9 has been suffering a seemingly incurable timing chain rattle that has finally gotten to me enough to hang my name tag on a relatively lower k 4.0 EB engine.

The engine comes with a 3 months warranty and a very nice price tag

Before fitting the engine I will be replacing the sump gasket, welsh plugs, rear seal and anything else I can think of that is near impossible to do with the engine in the car, paint the block etc

As far as I know it will be a straight swap with my 3.9 MPFI engine, I will leave my ECU, loom and intake manifold but exchange the rest, this way I dont have to bugger around with any wiring or anything like that

Chris, what problems did you have with the fuel pump again? I dont really see a need to change fuel pumps, does anyone know if the 4.0 pumps have different specs to a 3.9?

I thought I would just let you all know that I had finally figured out how to cure the incurable death rattle, TRANSPLANT!
It wont be for a few months yet but Im itching to get it under way

I'm pretty sure 4.0l runs a higher pressure fuel pump. Someone else may be able to help on that.

Well as for the fuel pump, you can use your old 3.9lt one because I found when the 4.0lt engine was installed (long block with everything on it) it spluttered and missed when you gave it hard accelleration, it was ok at cruise but when you accerlate it was running very very lean, like not enough fuel was getting in the engine. I put in the 4.0lt fuel pump and it was all a goer.

mine retains the 3.9MPI ECU, only problem is it runs leaner at accerlation and idle and rich at cruise... from what i was told..

ok thanks for the replies guys, I think ill try it with the 3.9 fuel pump, its possible yours had seen better days, but if it splutters I'll get a 4.0i fuel pump. I will probably end up fitting an ED XR6 ECU at a later date anyways..hehe time to have some fun me thinks

good to hear 6inarow if the engine is a eb2 make sure you use its manifold
cos the ea mpfi manifold had smaller over all port sizing than the eb2 and onwards

Both the manifold that comes with it and the one currently on my engine are 4.0 versions so all is good

yeah true bout my old fuel pump, i bet it doesnt work ne way... as for the costs, it cost me $1050 change over to get my 3.9lt long block replaced wif a 4.0 long block, well sorta ne way it was engine plus manafolds, all other shit is still original

I put a ef 4.0 in my ea ghia not long ago, I used all ea management ( computer, dissy, fuel pump etc). All I had to change were 2 plugs on the loom.

I got it dyno'd and all the air/fuel ratios were perfect and it made 119 kw at the rears! so you shouldn't have any probs with your conversion... just my two cents.
