Hi all I have just purchased a 5 speed manual for my XA wagon and wondered how to identify what it is . Its a straight bolt on job for my pre xflow 250 which I beleive could come off a 4.1 or 3.3 They are more common in NZ on the 3.3 Any ideas

if it has a BIG number 5 on the side of it it is known as a philipiono 5 speed box, Weak as piss, they were fitted to sigmas, coronas and 5 speed 3.3 falcons. Will go behind a 250 but i wouldnt give it a flogging as it will die

i agree they were only fitted to 3.3 over here too, cos 3.3 had no torque
pre crossflow has more torque than a 250 crossflow IMO and will destroy that box if you thrash it

if you want a bolt in 5 speed thats tuff you can(if you can find 1) use a T5 complete setup from an 87 falcon XF
i have(recently removed to fit to another car) a T5 from EA using castlemaine rod shop (www.rodshop.com.au) alloy bellhousing and all single rail clutch bits fitted to a 250 crossflow. FANTASTIC CONVERSION using original tail shaft and modifying gear box cross member a little only thing needing modifying.

It does have a dirty great 5 cast on the side but its in and paid for now so ill just wait and see how it lasts
