Howmuch would you advance ignition timing on carby model with 250xflow, Extractors/exhaust?

Standard timing is 6 + or - 2

Re: Advancing Xf Timing

standard timing is actually 10 +or- 2 degrees. id suggest you set it back to 10 for a start and reset the base idle as well. mine was set a 6 and it was a gutless dog so i got it tuned and it was put at 10 where it was sposed to be along with resetting the base idle. shitloads more power!

ok on your bottom pully there is a groove in it. that is a timing mark. on the block behind that pully there is little marks with numbers. these are timing marks. the easiest way to do this is get some white out and mark that little groove in the pully so it can easily be seen. im assuming you have a timing light and know how to use it??
have the car running at operating temp, loosen off the distributer at the base and make that white line line up with the number 10 on the block. you do this by turning the distributer and when its in line with the 10 on the block tighten the distributer back up so it cant move.
just a point too. check to see what its at BEFORE you change anything so if you have problems or it runs like crap or whatever you can just put it back to what it was so you can still drive your car.
as for the base idle id consult your gregorys manual or even a mechanic as i personlly dont like to **** with things like that.

Re: Advancing Xf Timing

Ok this is what gregorys book says
Timing 4.1 litre manual transmission
6 + - 2 btdc
Timing 4.1 litre automatic transmission 10 + - 2

Davway I assume yours in automatic? I got my timing set, it was sitting at almost 0 and make shitloads difference, a hell of a lot more responsive, so I dont think I need to advance it anymore? Unless anyone else has a differing opinion.
