EA falcon has died Help me please**!!**@**#**

Today I was driving my EA 89 5sp CPI falcon and then it stopped

It started the same as usual and did everything else the same and I was just cursing along in 4th gear at 60km and it died, there were no early warning signs or anything.

The idling was the same there were no temp problems.

I spoke to someone today about it and they said its the “fuel pump”.

What do you girls and guys think it is?

If it is the fuel pump how much are they and are they easy to do your self?

Any special fuel pumps I should buy that would improve performance or fuel economy? Or are they all the same and it dosn't matter

Re: All was well until it stopped help!!

my guess would also be fuel pump
they aren't cheap new(probably more than your cars worth from ford)(ring other suppliers they would have to be cheaper)
you will have to buy the tool to undo the big screw that holds your pump in the tank as they are usually done up by the HULK(this tool is also dear)
try getting a fitted price i think youll go this way and they should be able to verify its the pump before fitting mone

Re: All was well until it stopped help!!

Easy mate, just replaced my fuel pump in the 89 Series II EA i have.

A very basic pump costs around $200 - you can get it from SuperCheap Auto. There is no real performance pumps out there I dont think, just as long as they maintain a certain pressure and keep the petrol relatively filtered before it hits the main fuel filter, you should be sweet.

As for trickyness of the job - its too easy to do for the pumps that are in the tanks themselves. Just look in the boot, lift the carpet, and at the rear left there is a circular cap.

Search the forum for 'fuel pump' and you will see posts on how to remove it. Or just but a $30 Ford Falcon EA manual.

Hope this helps.

Or you can go to a mechanic and get banged up for more than its worth, as is my personal experience with mechanics.

Re: All was well until it stopped help!!

Mate had this prob on my 1991 EA CFi auto about 2 years ago and it was the dizzy. In simple terms the dizzy gets old then when it heats up it cant maintain the spark. So the car just stops. Good Luck with it.

Re: All was well until it stopped help!!

if it is the fuel pump you can buy them from a brisbane supplier who supplies to all teh ford dealers and auto elecs, they have the same bosch ones as genuine only the ford tag isn't on some of the boxes and there cheap as well with 2years 50,000 warranty on most parts, which is better than ford warranty the called Automotive EMF if you want there contact details e-mail always have been good to me and i know they send stuff all around australia and overseas

Re: All was well until it stopped help!!

Then your fuel pump may be stuffed due too a bad batch of fuel, all blocked up not enough fuel causing power loss and missing etc.

Re: All was well until it stopped help!!

Same thing happened to me last year..
It was the fuel pump..

Sometimes they just go on you like that..
Get into the back and get someone to start the car and give it a good whack with a hammer or something.. gets it going sometimes.
