Well today saw the WSID drag day organised by Duncan from the xr6 turbo forums area. The day started off cool and but the sun came up and clouds left leaving a really warm day. I think it hit around mid 20 degrees or so.

The day turned out quite well. I finished up early and will explain why later

. The field consisted of mainly commodores, some xr6 turbos and other various cars.

I was pretty stoked that on my first ever virgin run I ran a 19.95 @ 92.75mph run. As the day went by I managed to improve on the 60ft times and at other times botch my 2nd to 3rd gear changes. Overall the car ran pretty consistantly and I finished up with a PB of 14.68 @ 94.63mph. This with an unopened engine with only exhaust and Unichip fitted. F'n awesome.

I think I still have some work to go with seeing if there's any better way of getting off the line - at the moment dumping the clutch at 2000rpm (or less) is all that I've been doing.......

.......and as such have also put one more final nail in the coffin to my already on-its-way-out clutch. Was it worth it ? Yep. Mental note: book car in for new clutch. Overall the day was quite worth it.

Yeh, as he said, it was a great day, my brother and myself left as it just started to rain, so I suspect the last 1 1/2 was cut short.

Loxxr6's car went excellent considering the minimal mods, and in fact is less than 0.3 of a second away from my DEV5 powered ute.

I did happen to run a personal best of 14.410 with a best mph of 96.94, though not on the same run.
Pretty good considering the temp was well over 20deg, and last time I went it was 10deg.
Traction (new tyres) obviously helped here, but the extra heat kept me away from making any significant improvements.

I made a total 16 runs with all but 1 being well into the 14's.

loxxr6 that was a great effort from a mildly modded XR6.

Another Unichip testomonial.

They obvoiusly work getting that close to Soxx's ute was good work.

Shame about the clutch.

I was happy with the old dev3hl wagon which managed a best 15.608 at 145kmh.

stunning time Lox, that car must just explode off the line for that time at that mph, 60 foot must be great!

I was getting similar mph but was way off the ET! I want your launch!
Edit: Just looked at the time slip, your 60foot is a whopping .2 faster than mine, no wonder you ran so quick! My heavy ass auto just cant get that sort of 60 foot yet and I'm paying for it all the way. Your .3 ahead at 1/8th and .4 ahead at 1/4. Show just how much a 60foot time can make the difference.

Back I go to get my low end power fixed again.

Casper loxxr6 weighed in at 1540Kg in scrutineering where as my wagon was 1650Kg probably similar to the XR6 VCT Auto so you can see the effect of weight and an automatic has on the launch and as that is what the 400m drag is really all about the times.

Certainly with mine no airbox or filter changes or holding the gears and reving out to cut made a bit of difference it was all down to getting the launch right and that 60' time.

A few other points I might add as well.

- Ran with a full tank of petrol (which I was told was unneccessary)
- Also normal street pressure for the tyres
- Apparently I lost a few tenths of a second due to having the most dirtiest engine bay of any competitor at the meet

but no one has pics to prove it so I think that was made up

The launches at the expense of the clutch - which is so more rooted than when I left the track haha - were achieved by just dumping it at around 2000rpm. A few were done at a bit less than that. I think my PB was done at less.

I could honestly say as well that my takeoffs in respect to my runs left some v8's to shame except until they hit around third gear and got me. Likewise an xr6t which I had in 1st and 2nd but took me in third and just kept going. I also never managed to hit 4th gear on the run. I definately need some more go in the car for 3 gear. That will be fixed soon I hope

Yeh I am thinking of throwing a bucket of shit over my engine before I go to the dragstrip myself now.
