Was out cruising the other night in my xw(221) when my fan and all that goes with it decided to come off and eat my radiator,yeah,bummer.What causes this?I am guessing it was a worn water-pump shaft,but i dont really know.
also I was thinking of changing to a electric fan setup,is this a good idea?If so whats the best way to go about it?
And one more thing-Engine colours,do they mean anything?My block is blue and my head is green!I have a blue head also that was in the boot when i got the car,is there any difference?

it sounds like a worn/broken water pump shaft, seen it done before on a 250 x-flow

an electic fan would be a good change, id say a 12" would be about right

i would run a 15/16 inch thermo fan as minimum as i have a 1.3ltr escort that runs a 12 '' thermo and it can still get a bit warm its not just a cooling advantage but a power advantage its one less thing that needs to be driven by the motor

my brother ran a single 12 inch on a 302 clevo puttin out around 250rwhp, it got pretty hot but didnt overheat

Sweet,cheers for the confirmation on the water pump,ive sourced one for $60(nz)!And cheers for the input on the fan,i think ill go get one of those too!Would it be safe to run it with no thermo?ie-just turn it on as the car warms up?
