I am thinking of putting a 5 speed manual in my 1990 Ea Ghia, Just wondering what its like to drive and if it has much more power. My old 4 speed auto would hold just under 2000rpm on 100khr. Anyone know what a 5 speed manual holds at 100khr?

mine in 5th is 1750 rpm.

My ED XR6 with the 3.45 diff sits on 2000rpm at 100kmh

I have a EA S pac 5 speed.With the 2.92:1 it would cruise around 1800-1900 at 100km/h more around 1900 rpm now with the diff gears 3.45:1 it does 2200rpm- 2300rpm more 2200rpm though.

How come Martin and Lukey's cars show different RPM?

I think its probably due to the fact that an XR6 has a final gear ratio of 0.72:1 in fifth and an EA has 0.78:1(5th) giving the XR6 a slightly taller 5th gear but 1st gear is shorter for an EA being 3.50:1 and a XR6 3.25:1. not much different in ratios but makes around a 200rpm increase for the EA.

I must say it's pretty confusing having these different manual transmissions - I would have thought they'd all be the same. I guess the XR needed something a bit tougher, and the taller 5th gear was to compensate for the diff ratio (which I believe was different to XR8 )...

Actually I think all the EBII onwards Manuals had the .72 5th gear. So I think it would be the one to get if looking for a T5.

It was the 4.0L engine that came out with the lower gears. I'm pretty sure all, besides 4th were lower on the the 4.0 unit, along with a slightly bigger cluth diamter.

I've got the 4.0 T5 in my EA and rev 1900 @100 with 3.23

Confused again ILS??
