Anyone help HIGH oil pressure..

hey guys,
Every now and then my AU decides its gonna let its oil pressure go through the roof.. like right up to the end of red and thats when im just putting it around..
usually it the oil pressure gauge sits on about 3/4's on the dial.. but every now and then it goes right up to red and when im just ideling it drops to just under 1/2 on the dial..

Could it be my oil.. ford recommend 5w/30 and im running 10w/30.. im gonna step up to 15w/30 and see if it makes any difference..

Will driving it around with the oil pressure up so high (in the red) do damage?
or only when it drops do you have to worry...

usually when it get so high i turn the car off and back on and the oil pressure returns to normal.. even though i only have to do it every now and then its still annoying..

Anyone have any ideas?

IT WONT BE THE OIL im tipping a faulty switch get it checked if its running to high the worst thing is it will start to push seals out then major oil leaks

Re: Anyone help HIGH oil pressure..

hey,
i spoke to my mechanic about changin the switch soon..
althought i took my car for a hard thrash tonight and the oil pressure returned to normal..
go figure.. i think its tempramental..
if i putt it around the oil pressure climbs.. but if i sink my boot in it drops
to about 3/4 and when i lift off it sits just below half..

how much is it to replace the oil pressure switch?

Re: Anyone help HIGH oil pressure..

Series one or two AU? Would you believe that Ford got so sick of complaints about fluctuating oil guages on AU1 that on AU2's they did away with the normal guage type sender and fitted a switch that turns the guage either on (half way) or off. So the guage is actually only acting like a light. Cheapskates!!

Exclamation Re: Anyone help HIGH oil pressure..

If it's a 0-5V resistive sensor (many are) then you could replace it with a VDO/Bosch/whatever after market unit.
