Just been talking to a friend of mine who owns an AU1 Wagon 1998 build and he mentioned that Ford has changed the spec of the oil going from 5w-30 to 10w - 30 on AUII's. According to the mechanic he was talking to ford changed the specs as the oil they used wasn't real good and that the w30 oil ford uses is mineral based.

Although my car says 10w-30 i use the Caltex Synthetic TXT softtec and so far it's going great. Also according to the mechanic if you run mineral thin oil it's reccomended to use the 10w-30 but synthetic you can go a lower figure.

Anyone notice anything bad about the oil ford uses for the Inline 6??

Seems ford have changed oils as well as radiator fluid from the very very crappy red stuff to the green stuff.

Re Oil,
Next time you change your oil try, Caltex Havoline Energy, 5w-30. it is good stuff, Group 3 basestock which is as good as a fully synthetic oil but cheaper, stays cleaner longer and you will see an improvement in your MPG. I use it in my AUXR6HP and with headers and 2.5 exhuast im getting on a trip 850 k, per tank with cruise set on speed limit. It is one of the best oils on the market. www.havoline-energy.com check it out. By the way your car looks great, good colour.

My local Ford dealer whacked Caltex oil in my car during the last scheduled service, so I was thinking of sticking with the Havoline stuff for my own changes - thanks for the tip Jeff.

Since purchasing my car in sep 98 i have tryed every brand of oil on the market
Only used synthetic though.
Not much difference really
Have used 5w30, 5w40 and 5w50
Just put Shell Helix Ultra synthetic in my car on the weekend
I refuse to let a Ford dealer or garage touch my car .
5 litres is complete fill, not 5.5 or 6

My boss puts mineral 20w 50 in all his AU patrol cars which run on LPG. some run well and some do not
