Is there any way to check for fault codes without seeing the dealer? I'm a bit broke at the moment and I'd like to be able to check if anything's wrong (Fuel consumption WAYYY too high, 25L / 100km)

I know with some cars you short 2 pins and the engine light flashes, is there a similar guide for a Fairmont?

I think the AU uses EEC-V and OBD-II.

The autoemf site only provides info for EEC-V with and OBD-1 connector and likewise ford-tech only shows info for EEC-IV and OBD-1.

Hope someone proves me wrong because I'm also in need of how to obtain the codes (without a scan tool). There are a couple of cheap options for OBD-II scan tools that interface to a laptop computer. The one I'm looking at is at http://obddiagnostics.com - problem is that Aussie Fords don't comply with OBD-II protocols even though the connector is standard. I'm assuming this because commercial scan tools charge an extra $300-$500 for the Ford Falcon option!
