G'day all, I have an XR6 AUII ute with nearly 700k's on it and it has developed
a knock or tap at start up, three or four dull taps at cold start and after it has sat for 30-40 minutes,it does'nt happen all the time like when I took it back to the dealer!!I'm running in this little baby by the book so I get the best out of it in the long run, it has'nt been thrashed and I'm going to get the oil changed at 1000km, so I'm hoping it may be something minor!If any one has had a similar experience or if this is a pattern with the sixes I'd be interested to know, thanks, Ford jeepman

My mates AUII XR6 was making a noise when he started up on cold days. After around 15 000Ks on the clock it stoped, nows he is up to 70 000Ks but i didn't find out what it was?

Yeah i had a similar sound ( a knocking or tapping noise at regular intervals) and i let my dealer know about it. He said its quite common on a falcon and isnt a problem at all. They probably will replace a part ( which ? i dont remember)

G'day all, took my ute in for a service and left it overnight so the techs could listen to a cold start and check the knocking noise out, they said it is one of the lifters(Thanks Botch!) they contacted Ford who said it is within specifications, they also tightened up the front end which was a little clunkey, car is ok so far, very good service from the guys at New Oakford, regards Bill(Ford jeepman)

Its possibly got real thin running in oil in it. When the oil is changed it should improve.Actually I'd get the oil changed now,its only pumping the the iron fileings with oil that is scrached off the honed bores.Could be the reason the lifter is rattling? I.M.O

Thanks ebxr8240, I had the oil changed at 1000KM and have just had it changed at 5000KM, it is quiet at these last few cold starts so I will see how it goes,regards Bill ( Ford jeepman)
