Au six into pre smartlock EB2

Greetings all,

Yesterday whilst servicing my EB2 I was listening to the motor, and heard what I thought was tappetts.

Under the car it was alot louder, especially under the inlet manifold. It increases with engine speed, and at idle the noise is consistent with a slight stumble of the motor.

So my questions to the group are:

1. What is it?

2. If I have to rebuild the motor, I'm thinking of putting in an AU six, for around 950, which includes the computer and loom. (sell the old motor and recoup some money)

3. What mods have to be done to the EB crossmember to make it fit?

4. For those in SA, does it have to go through Regency?

5. If I install the AU engine harness, then what about smartlock/smartshield input into the EEC V? Will I get around it given that My EB@ is pre smartlock?

Cheers,

David

Re: Au six into pre smartlock EB2

you should beable to use your EB2 injection wiring loom, and just rig up a RPM switch to change the runners from long to short at 3800rpm.

I've got RPM switches available.
You may need to modify the engine mounts to get the AU engine low enough? ask Alex (mongrelEB) he has an AU engine in his EB.

Also if you fit the au ecu, you will need smartlock,
Basically if you fit any ECU EBII onwards, you will need smartlock.
Id say stick to what you have got.

Re: Au six into pre smartlock EB2

It'll bolt to the EA engine mounts, you need to take them off the side of the block.
I suggest picking up the AU alternator too, and the power steerinh pump. Your aircon compressor can be made to fit the AU serpentine belt if it's a 5-rib - the belt does'nt lose much grip over the missing rib.
On the other hand, it may still be possible to change the timing cover with an EA one, in theory it's still the same block. Personally I'd go with the serpentine system and the alternator but that's because I have to run my doof-doof system :)
Oh the other thing is fans, you can either use thermatic fans or bolt on the EA water pump so you can use the clutch fan.

Re: Au six into pre smartlock EB2

Thanks for your help guys.

I've decided to go for a rebuild of the existing motor with extras. Ported head Jmm dev 5 cam. Acl race series bits in the bottom end. And the Ef inlet manifold.

Cheers guys

David
