I have just read a interesting article compairing the two vehicles.
There were quite a few supprises, one being that the XR6 was the overall winner, holden must be spewind due to the xr not changing since 2002 and the sv6 has a new engine and gearbox etc.
the SV6 has 190 kw and a five speed auto and weighs 1602 kg
The XR 6 has 182 kw, 4 speed auto and weighs 1710kg.
Looking at this the sv6 should kill the xr, well it is quicker but not by much
sv6 0-100 in 7.5 and 400m in 15.3
xr6 0-100 in 7.7 and 400m in 15.5
this is were the 380nm comes in compared to the sv6 340nm.
The other interesting factor is the bull--it that holden trip computers tell.
According to the sv6 trip computer they averaged 10.9l/100 km but the testers actualy recored how much fuel they put in etc and their calculations were actually 12.3l (1.4l difference)
The xr's trip stated 12.8l but they actually calculated it to be 12.5l, so stuff all difference in fuel consumption between the two.
The other factor was that the sv6 5 speed auto can only be used in semi auto when you put it into drive and then push a A/S button (where the old pwr/eco button was) then you have to use the paddles on the steering wheel.
This process was greatly critised and fords was much user friendly, the only critism was ford needed a extra gear, but at least we have the operation right.
As said at the start the xr6 got 4 stars and the sv6 only 3 1/2 so ford wins again.
Therfore with the base model xt falcon having the same drive train the base model commodore can't compare, well done ford again.
Ye i read the Wheels article between XR6 and SV6. Conclusion was that the Ford was a better total package, just like GT vs HSVs. Great to hear, the trick rear suspension in our Falcons undoubatbly contributes to the great ride quality and handling. Good work Ford.

One thing I didn't get in the article was in the specs they said they XR6 had the 3.23 diff ratio. I thought that all XR6's had the 3.45 (well cept the Mk2 XR6T). Was this a missprint or have they changed the ratio's?

Yes both cars sure were auto's the manual sv6 is actually into the 6 second bracket for the 0-100km/h dam it.
In the same wheels issue they spoke about the series two ba falcons and stated that the xr6 turbo and xr8, Gt etc will have avialable 6 speed manuals the same gearbox as the holden but ford stated they will have different ratios so you can actually use the 6th gear.
Also they stated the xr8 diff ratio goes from a 3,23 to a 3.46 (i thought this is what they already have), and that the turbo will go from a 3.46 to a 3.73 ratio.
The rest engine, transmission. diff ratio etc stay the same only things like cruise is now standard on the xt and rear powere windows standard on the xr6.
A 3.73 in a normally aspirated xr6 would have been lovely, especially with all the torque to keep it pulling.
