I have been able to get my hands on a BAXR6T engine + Gearbox and was looking at putting it in my AU1 Fairmont.
Has anyone done this yet? What sort of things would i be looking at changing, upgrading? What things should i look out for, make sure the engine comes with?
I have been searching around on the net for info, but have been unsuccessful so any pointers will help me decide weather its worth investing a further 5-7k into the car. But then again, eating a WRX for breakfast in a 'family car' would be priceless
I figure I would have to upgrade:
Brakes - AU1 brakes are too small!
Computer - i have a unichip already, engine should come with the wiring harness and cpu.
Diff?? Tailshaft?
engineers certificates??
Add a waste gage
Intercooler?
Does anyone know if the engine drops straight into the exsisting mounts?

I dont think its going to be worth it at the end of the day, and after some research I did awhile back re a BA engine into a TS, start with at least 15k
Remember that most of the eletronics in the car need to be replaced as well, and really that would be the WHOLE wiring system from my understanding (dash display as well).
I dont know about EPA, but I dare say that would be a nightmare, and then of course there is insurance.
How about a cheap arse xt and drop the engine into that!

Thanks laminge
Yeah i need to serious weigh it all up. Obviously cash and insurance would be big factors here. I can get the box and engine for $5k, installed for around $2k - thats without what ever problems may be lurking - i havent found anyone who has done it so im not sure what they maybe!
It may be cheaper in the end to just rebuild and turbo my current 6 cylinder!

you can get heaps of turbo kits on the market all ready to go, tested and proven for less money then that.
maybe check them out?
TSA i think are over east? im not sure, im from w.a.
I think it's a great idea!!! dont think it would be that much drama. You will need the ecu and a few related bits & bobs, but I think it could be done without to much fuss. Just think the weight of the AU with the output of the BA6T woo hoo DO IT!!!
