Hey PPl

I have a EA CFI and every time on start up, i get black water crap out my exhaust. I went to a guy today and he told me that this is a common problem. He said its due to it sitting a lot and what happens is that the wiring loom is bugged. He said you can change the snesors all you like and it wont make a difference.
He said the wiring loom is a hard job. My car is CFI, if i need to replace the wiring loom, would it be worth converting to MPI?

Its worth converting to MPI either way, but if you have to do the Loom then you might as well.

Sounds like crap to me mate.

It's well worth doing the MPFI conversion regardless.

Has the car been on a gas analyzer? You will get some condensation blown out on startup, that's normal. Usually if it's black that is due to carbon deposits in the exhaust; possibly caused by overfueling. Does she blow smoke at all?

As long as the car is going OK don't worry about it, just condensation. As for the wiring loom causing it, never heard of that one. Sounds like the mixture might be a bit rich though.

When driving the car its jerky, But there is no smoke when driving it, it's just condensation and its pi$$en me off!

Yeha i want to do the MPI conversion to get the extra KW's but my concern is stuffen the engine up when i do it.

It won't happen mate. The wiring, maybe, but if you're careful that won't happen either.
Take it from me, I've done 5 or 6 of these things now and it is the best cheap mod you can do to a CFI :)
Even better is to go straight to the EF/EL intake manifold, even if you don't use the broadband; although the EL computer will fit onto the EA plug and run quite happily with the addition of 6 wires, only 2 of which you need from memory - Smartlock enable wire, and you need to move the power steering pin.
All the others are for thermofans and the knock sensor. I can send you the pin comparisons if you want, quite easy for a home mechanic to do.....

No way a wiring loom would create the "problem" you are describing.

Condensation will always come out the exhaust for tow reasons... Because fuel is a hydrocarbon (hydrogen + carbon) when it is burnt with oxygen the hydrogen will mix with it and creat H2O (water), also a catalytic converter will convert the harmfull emissions in your tailpipe (CO, CO2, Hydrochloric acid) into water.

Also that black sooty liquid coming out your tailpipe that looks like old oil it simply carbon mixing with the water, from the inside of your exhaust and is nothing to worry about at all.
