Firstly ive done a search on this kinda topic but wasnt exactly what i was looking for. At the moment i have a panel K N Filter in its standard airbox now i was thinking of making a piping which runs to the air box.

Also i was thinking of purchasing a SS induction or a Tickford snorkel but there dear and how effective could they be?. Ive been told by doing some sort of modifying like this doesnt do much cause the car calculates how much air it should get in.

So is it worth it or should i just leave it the way it is ....all advice and comments would be appreciated....cheers

The computer will calculate the amount of petrol to give for the amount of air it is bringing it, but this is controlled by the throttle and your foot. the idea of cold air induction is to bring colder air in which is more denser and has more oxygen that hotter air, and to allow better flow of the air coming in this will also allow better combustion of the petrol and give a better burn there fore more power. to really get an effect it would need to be done in part with other mods like extractors, cam, computer etc. but go with walknshaws idea, gets good cold air.

the AU XR8 tickford snorkel is bolt on, and is around the $35 mark - non trade discount price, compared to the SS inductions version, which is almost identical, and retails for the $180+ mark, you can see which one i bought.

as said, it alone makes next to no difference, but when you mod the car with cam,headders,etc it will help to have it

if i remember right i think shav (blueoval) done this to his old xr8. im not a hundred percent sure. its easy enough to do, but i also here that if cops or regency see this they dont really approve of it because you've cut away from the body which they see as weakening the chassis.

what car is this on? if its got bbm then you can do it but if its an ea style manifold then you cant because of the airbox. an ea style air box takes air from the top and sucks it down wards through the air filter and into the manifold. an ef style airbox takes air from the bottom half of the air box then sucks through the airfilter to the top half and into the manifold. so all you do is cut a hold in the bottom half of the air box and a hole in the guard mount some convoluted (dont know if thats how its spelt) tube going from the air box to near the inside of the bumper. this way no one knows (no attenion from cops) and looks tidy. a mate done this to his vn and went and bought piping from a plumbers hardware store. worked really well, and certainly noticed it on cold nights.

Well i have extractors and exhaust. Is it possible to have the xr8 snorkel and have the 3'' piping together? Also should i be worried if any water or other objects that could go thru the piping???
