installed cam and adjustable cam gear today, it would have taken about 2 hours but one of the seals for the lifters was gone, so I had to wait a couple hours for someone with a car to drive me to ford. They sold only the whole lifter and that was $46 so I went to Bursons and got the whole thing for $18.50.
My car now drives fine but stopping is a problem as it stalls when I stop in drive, however neutral is ok, I am getting it dyno'd tomorrow, will the tune fix this.
IT FEELS GREAT TO DO SOMETHING ON MY CAR AND NOT HAVE ANY BOLTS LEFT OVER!!!
happened with a mates car, that it would stall in drive but better in neutral, just got it tuned at was better, but could be something different............. you notice the difference with the cam in?

Yep....look at my recent thread and i didnt mention the crap i went through like when power steering belt came off and snapped...it can set you back heaps of time..
I don't really wanna rev the car out too much till it "settles in" but when it was in neutral I revved it a bit and once it hit 2 grand it shot straight up to 3 grand pretty quickly.
Useless,
I was going to pay someone to do it but a lot of you suggested to do it myself, so I thought I might, then I read your thread and didn't want to, I asked a mates dad if he would look over my work and he did so I put it in myself, I am glad I did.

Man I had a hard time and ended up putting the standard setup in.BUT!!!!I t will be very satisfying when I finish it properly now that I know what is involved. ,,I think this is half the fun..As you may have read the dev 4 would have been in the car today had it not been for my haste and not check the leads...Thats all it was ...But now Ido know that its not as hard as ot seems once youve done it twice..So good luck with your cam and idle and I hope you kick ass :wnc: :wnc: :wnc:
Useless,
The "ass kicking" is on hold for a while, I took the car out for a bit of a thrashing and once it hits 45000 rpm the lifters tick like hell, so I won't get it dyno'd just yet. I guess the washers I put in there aren't good enough. I now have to wait for Ford to order me in some shims, and I am not looking forward to taking the rockers off again as one of the bolts on there were burred from before I even touched it, so I just hope I can take it off and put it back on without too much trouble.
It is only the bolt, and I will get a new one this time, it's just a matter of getting it off without completely stripping it, I think I will go out and buy a very good 10mm (I think it's 10mm) socket to undo it. Then finally get it tuned.
nup i dont have a clue but because i have been doing bolts up for11 years i know how much pressure by my hands. You get a feel for it.I recommend a torque wrench..but dont know the spec
I imagine el and au would be pretty damn close, I supposed Ford will know, I'll ask them when I go to pick up my ridiculously priced shims-I hate Ford prices.
nah I won't bother it hasn't been leaking since wednesday so hopefully it shouldn't this time either.
(and by the way useless do you live on your computer or something the amount of posts you have clocked up in so little time...bloody hell lol)
The bolts holding the rocker gear on definately dont need to feel very 'tight' if you're doing them by feel. Hard to explain by typing, but you definately dont need to go close to as tight as you can get them. You only need to look at the number of bolts holding it on to see its not going anywhere.
It's all done now and ready for tune. The guy who is tuning it is booked up for about a week, apparantly he is excellent on the dyno, and I hope this fixes the stalling.
I havn't even dyno'd or barely even driven my car with the cam in yet, and I am already thinking of taking it out and putting in a dev 4 like you, it's not that I don't like the cam, I just don't wanna miss out on 160rwkw!!!
Nar dont ...seriously get it tuned and see how it goes..One thing for sure the DEV 4 from jim mock motorsport is awesome..Im sure alot of guys cant be wrong about wade either..
It'll be a while 'for I can afford one anyway, at the moment I am working on kw per dollar, and so far I have extractors, 2.5in exhaust, xr8 intake snorkel, pod filter (inside airbox), cam and adjustable cam gear all installed for under a grand and I just wanna see what power figures I actually have, then decide what step to take next, doing research and waiting for specials with parts really adds up and pays off in the end.
The stalling is the idle is far too low, is your car EFI?? I had the problem recently when I changed all the spark plugs and changed the idle a bit, when you go to stop or slow down suddenly it keeps stalling, I just simply upped the idle a bit and now it is 100% fine. just turn the idle screw anti clockwise for higher revs.....and then take it for a spin, stop suddenly, if it doesnt stall then you have a good rpm, if not just turn the screw a bit more until you get it right, thats what i did, took me about 4 goes to get it perfect.
Did you put the extractors + sports exhaust in yourself, is it hard?...that's pretty good you got all those mods done for under 1 grand.....whats extractors do you use?
I put genie extractors on and their ok, nothing to rave about too much. I got given a twin exhaust system which I put on myself, but didn't like it and bought a redback single system. I wouldn't advise putting an exhaust on yourself unless it has a join over the diff, cause if it is solid the whole way you won't get it over the diff yourself. I had to cut my standard one to get it out.
