Has anyone put an aftermarket cam in an xe or xf efi? Ive been to the crow website and noticed thee efi is limited to a certain cam (lpg spec), which is pretty obvious as the computer wouldnt be able to handle much change. Are the xf cams better than xe as standard as i have an xe efi?
Yeah, I had exactly the same problem. The normal over-the-counter cam suppliers only list something very close to standard for the EFIs.
The EFI can take a much more aggresive cam. Obviously, one would need to match the correct valve springs. A bit of headwork also works wonders.
I did the following recently:-
This is an XE Fairmont Ghia sedan.
Started with an XE Bosch EFI.
Was doing (and did) a complete engine rebuild.
Had the head ported and the injector rail port matched.
Upgraded to the XF version EECIV EFI.
Installed HM Headers and a 2.5" sports exhaust.
Went to a 4 speed manual (will be a T5 soon).
Headwork and Cam was supplied by Jim Mock.
Jim also advised in piston, gasket, block shave to achieve required compression.
Pulls 127rwkw.
Ring Jim Mock - highly recommended.
