Hey..
Im about to change the water pump on my EL XR6 as it has a leak coming from it somewhere. Well, I'll pull it off and have a look for starters.
Ive changed them a few times before on an EA and EF, but since I want to look after this car, I want to do everything properly.
Do I need to apply any silicon shit to the gasket when putting the new pump on? I never have before and dont think I should need to but just wanted to make sure.

I don't think it is needed. If you do put it on then use it lightly as sometimes it can push the gasket out of place and if too thick then the squeezed out bits can break off and block off area's in the cooling system such as radiator tubes etc.

Yea, thats what I figured.
I used a THIN smear of RTV and it barely squeezed out so was just enough.
No leaks so far so it looks good.
