ok... time to clear the air a bit. :s6:
you can find 3.2 lt rods at wreckers if your lucky, they came out of the ea series 1 falcons more then any other... but, some series 2's also came in 3.2 (very rare)
otherwise, ford sell them new for less then 70 bucks each, i think from memory.
i was to do this option, but decided on forged custom rods of 6.3 inches
the 3.2lt rods are 6.27 inch rods, compared to 5.88 for the 3.9/4.0lt, the au has 6.05 inch rods.
pistons...well this is upto you, but a coupla ideas... acl may make a short stack piston to suit the 3.2 rod conversion. if not....the acl pistons that are for the 200 rods in the 250 x flow, may be the go, just have to make sure the pistons will fit the bores and vice versa. also look at commodore ecotec pistons and wrx pistons, cos they both have a high piston height, gudgeon pins may not match up tho.
if these options come to a dead end.... custom pistons may be the go, although at 1500 bucks a set (i know i just bought some!!!!).
this set up could be all done using new parts and fully machined, approx 2500-3000, but depends how cheap you are
good luck people.
side note,,, if it helps my own bottom end is as follows...
custom 60 tho over forged pistons
custom 6.3 inch rods
arp bolts used thru out
crank is ef item nitraded, balanced and off set ground to reduce throw.
au block, sump
12mm thick bisalloy crank girdle
jp-hi-volume oil pump
$5500 all up :s5:
