confused codes info needed plus:

G'day dudes (and dudetts if any)

I really need some help please.

While my car was in a service situation (and hereby hangs a tale, more maybe on a later post)) he mechanic pulled a code: 796, which was (according to him) "ssps output check fail." Now, what I would really like to know is: wot the ***** is a ssps??? I can't find it anywhere on any of the suggested sites for codes.

Can somebody help me please?

I do have another question: I wish to do a compression test on a EL. I know all about how to do the test, but what I don't know is what I should do to the ignition system to disable it. Do I simply pull the coil lead, or is there more to it? For example, on the EF, one has to disconnect the Crank sensor sender. Is there such a thing on the EL? I don't particularly wish to blow up the ECU, so advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: codes info needed plus:

SSPS = Speed Sensitive Power Steering and the code is a SSPS circuit failure.

Re: codes info needed plus:

Thanks for that, as I don't have the speed sensitive p/s, I guess the code is irrelevant. I think the speed sensitive p/s is only on the Fairlane?
