Noticed that it takes a while for the oil l ight to go out when I first start-up on a cold morning. Initial start is accompanied by what I would consider to be excessive valve train noise when it takes off like a scalded cat once it starts

The engine has 190k and only uses minimal oil. There is a litre of lucas oil treatment in the sump

Any suggestions

is this for your ute? obviously the oil level is correct? if i thrash my car and then dont give it enough time to warm down before turning it off (ie drive normally for at least 10mins) then the lifters tick for a couple of seconds on startup the next morning - never does it if i just drive nice.

also, what oil viscosity and oil filter are you using? maybe change brands and see how that goes.
