I have a EA 3.9L cpi 4sp auto and i want to get all parts for a mpi conversion. What are the minimum parts required: a/c bracket, fuel pump, computer, injector loom. Do you combine the two tps on the cpi for the one on the mpi? Can I use a mpi 3spd computer or does it have to be from a 4spd ea,eb,ed mpi
- A/C Bracket
- Fuel pump
- Dipstick tube
- Distributor
- 3spd/4spd/5spd 3.9 MPI ECU (all will work)
- Manifold with all vacuum lines, sensors, injectors and loom connected (buy it with everything on it)
- Throttle cable
- Airbox and filter.
I think that's all from memory.
You can't use the CFI TPS om MPI as I learnt last week. You'll just have to source a manifold with a dual TPS or get a 3 spd or 5spd one and get a TPS afterwards.
You can't use a 4.0l computer on a 3.9. You can mix and match all CFI 3.9 ECUs and all MPI 3.9 ECUs.
yeah the dizzy is a question that pops up all the time.
Basically if you get a MPFI dizzy and install it with the tfi at a 60 degree angle from the block then it will work perfectly on either MPFI or CFI motors same goes for the CFI dizzy provided you don't move it it will work perfectly.
Id disagree, How will the ecu know where #1 piston is with a CFI dizzy? If it isnt able to figure out which is #1 then how is it able to sequence the banks of injectors?
Its really simple to change the dizzy over when the manifold is off and even more simple to get it set up properly. Also if you dont have a MPI dizzy the CFI one is able to be converted into an MPI one anyway. Not trying to flame here because I once thought the same thing that the dizzy only sent the spark to the right plug but it actually is the only thing that tells the engine where the crank is on an MPI. In effect your forcing the ecu to guess.
Well then how do you change the the cpi to work as a mpi??? I will save myself about $60 if i don't need to buy a 2nd hand mpi dizzy to do the conversion!!
I did have the instructions somewhere. Its simply a matter of knocking the pin out of the driven gearon the bottom, lifting the shaft and vanes out, and filing down one vane to the mpi spec. I'll get the instructions soon (like in the next couple of days, and itll be included in the CFI to MPI tutorial we are 'hopefully' doing in the next few weeks.
NZ I didn't post that up as a hyperthetical it's fact. I've run my (now) MPFI setup with both a CFI and then a MPFI dizzy and noticed no differance in power or drivabiliy.
On my Fathers CFI EA I put the MPFI dizzy in his car and it ran (and runs) perfectly.
I don't know why I just know it runs fine.
