crossflow into non-crossflow car


I'm currently driving a stocko XT falcon with the original 221 I-6 engine. It got quite hot a while back, and although it's running ok, it's beginning to use oil at an exponential rate, so it possibly may need a rebuild depending on what the problem's found to be

I have a standard 250 x-flow from my XE project, and what I'm wondering is how easy it would be to swap the two on a temporary measure. I've heard the x-flows are a bolt in swap, but I want to keep as much of the XT running gear as possible, including the 3-on-the-tree gearbox, if I do go with the swap. I don't want to do a big job for a temporary set up. Does the x-flow bolt up to the non-x-flow bell housing? I do have a spare single-rail, but would rather not have to cut a hole in the floor and buy buckets, for the sake of originality.

I'm assuming a few people would be familiar with swapping these engines, I'd be interested in hearing from you

I've seen a few with x-flows in them, never done it myself. Should be a bolt in job, not sure how much of the pollution crap you need to make it run. The gearbox "should" bolt up, you would have to change the spigot bearing in the back of the crank. But the bellhousing should be ok, XF utes/PVs still run 3-on-the-tree. Probably a radiator change as well.
