Can cylinders be bored out without taking the engine out of the car?
I have a couple of cylinders that are low on compression and the pistons will probably need replacing, I was just wondering how expensive this would be.

I would be getting all 6 cyls bored out and new pistons for them. What pistons would be good replacements? (would probably pay a bit more for good quality ones.

If you could, it would be harder than just pulling the engine out.

I would stick to standard ACL pistons, they are strong and well priced. I asked about getting stronger pistons but they were all going to cost around $1500 for a set.

If you are going to spend the money for new pistons, take the engine out & get the block machined professionally.

Check for valve leakage.

You should be able to get an ACL Race Series rebuild kit for a touch under $1000. They have better pistons/rings/bearings etc, but aren't over priced. I am building and engine to handle about 250rwkW using ACL gear, it's really good stuff. It is a pain pulling the motor out, but you are better off doing it the right way once than having to pull it down again 6 months down the track. My engine has cost me about $2000 to build with A LOT of work done to it, most was done at mates rates, but it shouldn't cost you a hell of a lot more.

You should be able to get the kit for well under 1000....
My acl race series kit for my crossflow was 600, and that was using long rods....
they musta gone up, do u get all the guides and shit in the 4.0 re-build kit

I got my kit for $710, but that was WELL under trade price. Retail was above $900. You don't get guides or anything. All you get is pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets and welsh plugs. Cost me $140 for new valves, $89 for a high volume oil pump and $65 for a timing kit.

You might be able to get away with just rings and bearings, depending on how worn your bores are.
