Could someone with some engine savy please help me. I believe the ticking sound I am hearing on my Fairmont is actually from the injectors. I have been told this is good, but is there someway of quieting it slightly ??

If its a really fast and soft noise then maybe it could be but i doubt it. It's most likely the hydraulic lash adjusters or tappets/lifters in the common talk. Expensive to get fixed by a mechanic ($30 per lifter x 12) or cheap if you get a kit and do it yourself. It's not really an urgent situation as MANY falcons have this problem and run day in, day out.

Unless its a rattling noise then that's most likely the timing chain. But more than likely its the lifters.

I have seen and heard lots of noisy injectors and all i can suggest is spraying the underbonnet sound deading with a bitumen sound retardant.. I use stuff called 'BlackJack' ,, it is great at quieting down noise

or put up one of those bonnet silent covers that come out on the falcon i have a spare one in the garage i think

my motor has recently developed a fairly loud "tick" that is coming from under the rocker cover, thus being tappets, but it is (only just) audible in the cabin at idle (wwindows up and cd player off). This has got me worried. How long should i give it before taking it apart and doing some work on it? I have been givin it a little bit of a flogging lately and now im regretting it big time...

Remember the ticking sound may not be from the tappets. In our EF we've got brand new hydraulic lifters fitted and the noise is still there. Hasn't caused a problem so far though.

The noise could be the timing chain and guide.

I just reconditioned my lifters and the ticking is still there, mine is my injectors.
They are very loud.

Get the injectors cleaned !!!
Cheap and easy and will benefit u anyway.
If it is the lifters then might as well get a small cam and repack or put new lifters in.
My ED makes an injector ticking sound as well at idle.
