hey all, i was just wondering, whats the difference between the EB/ED xr6 and the EF\EL xr6 engines. they have both got 164kw, but the EB/ED doesnt have the broadband manifold or EECIV, and still has the old clutch fan raping power. which makes me think that the EB/ED xr engine must be worked internally more then the EF/ELs.

EB/ED is 161kw.

There are a few differences, cams, compression and the head is a bit different.

BBM manifolds don't do anything to top end power, they only affect the bottom end.

and ive also heard that when some manufacturers test engines they do so with none of the extras ie power steer pump, alternator and propably no clutch fan

but the standard I6 in Eb/EDs are about 145kw or so, and the EF/EL is 157kw, so the gain in an ED/Ed xr is about 19kw, but the gain in the EF/El is only 7kw, I reckon the EF/El xr6s have alot more power then 164kw, cos 7kw aint gonna take 1sec off the quater mile, like the xr6s do

Its their Diff ratio of 3.45 That helps make them faster than the standard 157kw Gli/Futura/Fairmonts whose diff ratio's are usually 3.08 or 3.23.

nope EF, EL and AU all are factory rated at 157kw
