hey everyone, i recently got an 1989 EA 3 speed auto cfi etc etc and took it for a drive. Me, being on my L's (NSW) my dad had to come with me.. so i went to the top of my street and turned left and went down a hill. Speed limit in the area was 60km/h so i checked my speedo and the needle was still at 0kmh.. so i turned left again to go thru the back streets to get back home(in case i got pulled over by cops) and came to an intersection. Being and eager under 25 male, i wanted to see how well the beast performed off the line.. so when no cars were coming, i gave alot of throttle (not foot to the floor) but still quite a bit. to cut a long storey short, it accelerated for 1 meter and then pfff.. concked out, stalled dunno.. but it stopped and i was left rolling out into the middle of the intersection shitting my panties.. so my dad (gotta luv him) got out and pushed me to the other side
so i have to ask the question of wat went rong? and how to fix up my speedo
thanx guys!!
Carl
Thats not entirely funny, my old EA used to do the same thing, if stopped at the lights and i put the accelerator to the floor, the engine had a tendancy to just go to shit and konk out. Its due to (i believe) the crap CFI setup. Since its almost carby like, by putting your foot down, the computer engages more fuel flow and effectivly the throttle body get flooded with too much fuel.
if not this, possibly the pump is cactus, or the injectors, or restriction of airflow.

if its any thing like an XE/XF and i belive it is its most probably the sender on the gear box
don't have a clue what they're worth new, but a wrecker would probably want 20 bucks
also cheap trial and error and probably easier than taking the instrument cluster out(possibly connector but i've had 3 senders go bung)
stalling probs NO IDEA(lpgas does not have these probs)

Where do you get all this crap about CFI engines?
Do you think Ford built them to cut out.. what utter rubbish.
No car runs for years without things going wrong, and any CFI EA is now about 13 years old.
Try tuning it or fixing whatever the problem is and they go fine.
As for the speedo problem..
Possibly the transducer or its connection (as someone suggested) or a bad earth somewhere in the car.
