confused EA idle issue

Hey i have an EA 3.9 cpi and the idle is really annoying me. The throttle solenoid seemed to open the throttle buy itself up and down pretty often, so I changed it over to a different solenoid from the wreckers and now it doesnt seem to rev by itself but when I accelerate the solenoid closes VERY slowly so the revs drop off very slowly after pushing the accelerator, it is defiantely the solenoid staying up, so is there anything else that can make the soenoid close slowly or did I just get another dodgy one maybe? :S

Any ideas?

Cheers

Re: EA idle issue

Hi Knickers, I bought an EA and just got it roadworthy and I have the same prob , a mechanic told me I will have to take it in to a workshop and get someone to hook it up to a comp and reset the base idle. I'll get back to you when i find out if this works on mine. Or if you get yours fixed first contact me anytime at graeme_g_h@yahoo.com.au. I know the fun your having with yours.

Re: EA idle issue

If you have a workshop manual, base idle is pretty simple to do yourself :)

Re: EA idle issue

To set the base idle you basically disconnect the solenoid, start the car and allow it to idle for a few secs then adjust the idle screw to bring it upto around 600-700rpm, unless it is that high already even with the screw wound off in which case you leave it.

Turn off the car plug in the solenoid and fire it up.
