did the Eb series one come standard with the 4.0 engine, or the 3.9 from the Ea, and did Ea's ever come with the 4.0

EA-EB1 3.9 CFI or MPFI
EB2 onwards 4.0 MPFI
4.0 never available pre EB2

a few EB1 gl's had a 3.9 CFI & 4spd auto, I presume just to use up left over parts.

ALL EB1's had the 3.9. CFI was standard (except for fairmont ghia and above), whilst MPI was optional. ALL EB1's were either 4spd auto or 5spd manual (the 4spd was introduced with the EA2).

As stated earlier, the 4.0 wasn't introduced until the EB2.
