Any suggestions guys and gals. My EB speedo needle works on the dash but the cogs on the odometer are not clicking over. So I have no idea on fuel economy and when to service by watching klm.

gidday mate.

common problem you have there...

the little wheels driving the cogs do eventually wear out.

head to wreckers..... see what they have there. I've never paid more than 30 dollars for a new standard cluster, maybe a tad more if it's got tacho.

I bought an s pak cluster for my ea... had the same problem as yours so I transferred the drive gear out of another gl cluster and fixed problem in 20 minutes. bit fiddly but can be done.

Most older cars seem to have this problem so might take a bit to find one that's working. i went through three before I got one working.... but like you said, makes it easier to calculate fuel economy etc. funny thing is in W.A. it must be working for a car to pass a full inspection over the pits... I've never figured out the meaning behind that.

Mate, it is most likely the gear that drives the odometer section has fallen apart. You can get a wrecker one but they are probably 3/4 stuffed already! There is a Wrecker in Queensland (Ford Wreckers Redcliffe) (at Clontarf) they sell new gears for about $20 for most of these odometers. Why put in a mostly stuffed second handy? Fix it properly.

I currently work for a Ford Dealer and can get access to non genuine cogs
to fix this problem. It is a common problem that we see at least once a week
If you have trouble getting one give me an email at dane.woolnough@bigpond.com and i can organise one for you.
The cause of these to strip is pressing the reset button while the vehicle is in motion.

So whats involved in getting at the Cogs. Do I have to pull out the dash panel. Sound like a major job.

Sorry gugs...I havn't got a manual. Has someone removed this dash cluster from an EB before. I rang a local auto shop and they quoted $120 to repair the cogs and removal and install. Probably a good price but I havn't got that spare cash and could easily do it myself.
